Importing Photos

Copying from memory cards and external drives.

Launch

⌘⇧I or File → Import. Connected cards and drives appear in the source list, with DCIM devices marked separately.

Tip: In settings (General → Auto-open Import) you can enable automatic opening of the import window when a memory card is connected.

Source and destination

Select a source (memory card, external drive) and specify a destination folder on your Mac. PhotoWorker automatically finds photo folders on connected devices.

Name and subfolder templates

Set up automatic renaming and subfolder organization during import. The variables button next to the input field shows a list of all available substitutions: capture date and time, camera, lens, file name, sequence number, and more.

Example: the default template {datesortdash} in the subfolder field formats the date as YYYY-MM-DD, creating a structure like 2026-04-01/.

File filter

Choose which files to copy: all, RAW only, or JPEG only.

New files only

"Copy new only" — files that already exist in the destination folder (by name and size) will be skipped.

Name conflict

If a file with the same name already exists at the destination — choose: Skip, Overwrite, or Rename (add a suffix).
